What Is an ATS-Friendly Resume Format?
An ATS-friendly resume is not a secret template. It is a clearly structured document whose content can be parsed reliably and understood quickly by a person.
Choose clarity over decoration
Use familiar headings such as Experience, Education and Skills. Keep dates, job titles and employers in a conventional reading order. Decorative columns, text boxes and graphics can make the information harder to interpret.
Use a reverse-chronological structure
For most professionals, lead with the most recent relevant experience. This makes progression, scope and recent evidence visible in the first scan. A functional format is occasionally useful, but it can obscure the story recruiters need to assess.
Make the target legible
Your headline, summary and recent achievements should all point toward a specific type of opportunity. The best keywords are not pasted in: they appear naturally in the evidence you use to describe the work.
Test the human scan too
A resume needs to work for both systems and people. Keep enough white space to make it readable, use concise bullets, and make the strongest relevant outcomes easy to find.
